Q: Which classes can I take?
A: Once you are a member many classes are open to you. Some classes are for adults or children only and you may find classes scheduled in the timetable for which you need to have a certain Dan level to attend, Occasionally prior to events there are classes scheduled for the Competition Team which you can only join if you are part of the team. Otherwise you may attend any class in the timetable.
Q: How many classes should I take?
A: If you are a beginner then you might want to start with say 3 classes a week for the first few weeks. After a short period of training you will find your body changing and your energy levels rising and you will be ready to take on more classes. Athletes with wushu experience or other martial arts experience may feel ready to do more classes immediately. Please feel free to ask if you are not sure what is best for you. Many members train every day and some train for as much as 4 hours every day. Any amount of Gongfu practice is beneficial to health but the level you choose to aim for is entirely up to you. Chinese Wushu Academy UK is dedicated to helping you achieve your own personal martial arts dreams.
Q: Which classes can children take?
A: The best place for children to start their gongfu training is in the Children’s Class where they will be introduced to the basics of Shaolin Gongfu. Young children (5-13) also have the opportunity to learn the famous Shaolin Tongzigong (Children’s Techniques) which will give them tremendous flexibility, strength and confidence. Once a degree of confidence has been gained and with Shifu’s permission there are a wide range of classes open to children of all ages including Shaolin Gongfu, Modern Wushu and Taiji.
Q: What if I have an injury or poor health?
A: The practice of Shaolin gongfu and Taijiquan is well known to have valuable health benefits and although no substitute for proper medical treatment many people with a wide range of medical problems have found improved health through training. When you join you will be asked to fill out a form declaring if you have any disability or medical condition that might affect your training. If you do have any such condition, this may not prevent you from enjoying the benefits of Shaolin gongfu training but may require that you seek the advice of a doctor before starting. Please read our terms and conditions to find out more.
Q: Can I have private lessons?
A: Private lessons can be arranged for individuals or for groups. Please contact us with your requirements and we will be happy to advise on a suitable programme.
